And even the general public understands it has something to do with headsets, goggles or glasses.<\/p>\n<p>But what is the reality of the coming revolution, exactly? Virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), extended reality (ER), mixed reality (XR)?<\/p>\n<p>Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg changed the name of his company from \u201cFacebook\u201d to \u201cMeta,\u201d then miraculously convinced the media to refer to all of these realities as \u201cthe metaverse.\u201d That marketing miracle also led many to view Zuckerberg as the leader \u2014 or, at least, the thought leader \u2014 of this new trend.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why people were shocked (and Zuckerberg mocked) when Zuck shared a selfie from Horizon Worlds, Meta<span>\u2019<\/span>s virtual reality game, as part of its European debut; instead of looking like the future, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChrisJBakke\/status\/1559696878530449418\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">it looked like the 1990s<\/a>.
